What is a ‘social lead’? 

As Social Lead in a creative agency, you’re the go-to for making campaigns happen on social media for both clients and colleagues. It truly is a varied role with not only the need to be immersed in channels and trends but a great relationship builder with the confidence to inspire new ideas and encourage businesses to try new strategies to reach their goals.

Who does a social lead work with?

You and your team are in a privileged position that you genuinely work closely with everyone at borne. Sitting in the strategy team you’re a key cog in new business and client opportunities, you partner with creatives to bring ideas to life and you relationship build alongside client services.

What do your day-to-day tasks look like?

There are a number of retained social media clients that day to day make content ideation, planning and scheduling a part of the job – organisation and familiarity with social media channels and editing content are key skills here.

You’ll then be working to push major campaigns through to meet deadlines, scaling UGC ideas, researching key influencers to work with or working on a high-level social media audit to determine a new strategy.

What’s your favourite thing about your role?

The best bit about the role is that you work with everyone in the agency, it’s always busy – in a good way – and you have the balance of thinking of creative ideas but have the support of talented colleagues to bring those to life.

What’s the most challenging thing about your role?

Social channels love to throw a challenge your way, being on top of the platform updates and new/emerging platforms to truly understand how to make them work in a client’s favour is key.

What does it take to be a good Social Lead?

A Social Lead means that colleagues and clients go to you for recommendations and advice and it’s having the confidence and understanding to rework a strategy or develop new content to ensure results, never be afraid to try something new!

Creativity is a trait that borne really value, our clients work with us because we have really cool ideas and it’s those ideas that we’ve won awards for! This role isn’t about playing it safe, audiences are exposed to so much social media content we need to cut through.

Agency experience is valued but isn’t a must, it’s the ability to build relationships and be organised enough to manage multiple accounts in one day that’s important. It’s a fast-paced world and someone who thrives on that will fit right in.
